News: Rotherham Ready to meet the Queen
Jackie Frost, Enterprise Projects Manager at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has been awarded the individual Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion 2009 - the UK's most prestigious Award for individuals helping to unlock Britain's entrepreneurial talent.
Jackie has dedicated her working life to supporting and enabling young people to set up their own businesses in Rotherham, helping to run successful projects including Rotherham Youth Enterprise and Rotherham Ready.
She developed Rotherham Youth Enterprise from 1992 and has been involved in Rotherham Ready for the 4-19 age range since 2005, being manager since 2007.
During the five years to September 2008, Rotherham Youth Enterprise worked with 178 young people that have started their own business in Rotherham and 77 of those businesses have been based in RYE's office or workshop units.
Rotherham Ready is a world-leading enterprise education project funded by Yorkshire Forward. The programme is breaking new ground in business engagement, developing personal skills such as creativity and risk management and opening young people's eyes to the diversity of enterprise. Already, more than 22,500 pupils in Rotherham have developed business skills as a result of the project.
Jackie is the second Rotherham recipient of the award as she follows in the footsteps of RiDO's Business Centre Manager, Amanda Parris who picked up the award in 2006.
The Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion is one of four categories in the annual Queen's Awards for Enterprise, and the only category honouring individual achievement. Jackie is one of only eleven people honoured today.
Jackie said: "Its a great honour to receive this Award. I feel both proud and privileged to have been recognised in this way, but I also feel that this Award is recognition for my family, colleagues and young people who have supported my work and ambitions through the promotion of enterprise and entrepreneurship."
